June L. Brooks, 90, of New Marshfield, passed away, Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Maple Hills Nursing Home, McArthur. She was born November 13, 1923 in Athens County, daughter of the late Berl and Mary Gabriel Lowry. She was the widow of the late Raymond H. Brooks who passed away June 15, 2008.
June was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Union Furnace High School. She loved school and learning and was an avid reader. She worked very hard and retired from the Athens Mental Health Center and was a 50 year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed attending OU Basketball games and high school sporting events with her husband, as well as traveling extensively. June loved the Christmas holiday season and took great pride in wrapping and giving gifts. She enjoyed trips to Kings Island with her family and especially liked riding the roller coasters with her grandchildren.
She is survived by sons, Robert (Phyllis) Brooks of Albany, George (Patti) Brooks of New Marshfield and John Brooks of Athens; daughter, Pam Mitchell of Belpre; thirteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Donald “Bus” (Donna) Lowry of Doylestown; sister, Eileen Kadilak of Barberton; and brother-in-law, Willard "Bill" Brooks of New Marshfield.
In addition to her parents and husband, June was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey Lowry; brother-in-law, John Kadilak and sister-in-law, Elsie Brooks.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Friday, January 31, 2014 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Buford Brown officiating. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County. Friends may call Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
