Hugh I. Cockrill

Hugh I. Cockrill, 89, of The Plains, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Athens, under hospice care. He was born May 17, 1927 in Newman, Illinois, the son of the late John C. and Mabel C. Cockrill. He was married to the late Catherine L. Boylan Cockrill, who passed away July 13, 2013, for 66 years.

He was a Navy Sea Bee serving in Pacific during WWII and was recalled during the Korean War. He was a third degree Knight of Columbus and had been retired from plant and manufacturing engineering.

Hugh is survived by a daughter, Carol Cockrill of Athens; a grandson, David Cockrill of Chillicothe and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

It was his wish to be cremated and a memorial service will be held 5:00 PM Tuesday, June 28 at South Canaan Baptist Church, 17506 S. Canaan Rd., Co. Rd. 24, Athens, Ohio 45701 with Pastor Monte McCune officiating. Burial will take place in Illinois at a later date. Arrangements are by Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville.
