Alice Ilo Coomer, 92, of Logan, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026, at her residence. She was born July 28, 1933, in Newark, Ohio, daughter of the late Eugene “Gene” VanDyke and Grace Marie Poff Minor. Alice was the widow of the late Fred D. Coomer Sr.
Alice was a devoted member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she faithfully served for many years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School to countless children. She found great joy in sharing her faith and guiding young hearts in their spiritual journey. In her free time, Alice loved tending to her garden and preserving the harvest through canning. Above all, she cherished spending quality time with her precious family, who were the center of her life and the source of her greatest happiness.
She is survived by her sons, Fred D. “Skip” (Kimberly) Coomer Jr. of Logan and John (Sarah) Coomer of South Riding, Virginia; daughters, Denice Mock of New Plymouth and Barbara Coomer of Logan; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Janice) VanDyke of Logan; sister, Wanda Cooperider of Newark and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by her granddaughters, Rebecca L. Bookman and Delayna Rae Mock; brother, Bob VanDyke and Karen Bartley.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2026, in Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with J.D. Coomer officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Perry County. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
