Candy Sue Howard

Candy Sue Howard, 68, of Athens, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at O’Bleness Hospital in Athens. Candy was born on December 2, 1957, in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Childress) Howard.

She was a longtime member of the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church. Candy was a special person who touched many lives over the years. She appreciated all those who provided care and compassion throughout her life. Candy always left you with these comforting words, “Take it easy” and “I love you”.

Candy is survived by her sisters, Cindy (Jack) Boyer of Westerville, Charlotte (Rick Holland) Howard of Lowell, Michigan, and Crystal (Mike Buchanan) Howard of Nelsonville; nieces and nephews, Sarah (Tim) Feeser and their children, Madison Faye Feeser and Luke Thomas Feeser, Melissa (Kevin Geib) Boyer and their daughter, Evelyn Ann Geib, and Cassie (Andy) Ameling and their son, Hudson Dale Ameling; special friend, Jerlean Buchanan; and many special and beloved cousins, friends, and caregivers.

Candy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, C.J. Howard; maternal grandparents, Russ and Faye Childress; paternal grandparents, Cliff Howard and Louise (Oscar) Cooley; and aunts and uncles, Gilbert (Irene) Childress, Dennis (Doris) Childress, Hazel Post, Harold (Gladys) Childress, Jim (Betty) Childress, Harry Childress, Kenny Howard, Lindley Howard, Helen (Cecil) Brown, and Belford Foraker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Souers Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville, with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Family and friends may visit from 11 am to 1 pm Friday at the funeral home.
