Charles W. Shafer

Charles W. Shafer, 87, of Danville, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at home. Charles was born on October 14, 1938, in Clendenin, West Virginia, the son of the late Roy Shafer and Lydia (Walker) Meadows. He was the widower of the late Mary (Nichols) Shafer.

Charles served in the US Marine Corps. He was a retired truck driver and was a member of the Delta Lodge #207 F&AM McArthur; Sereno Chapter #128 OES McArthur; Council, Chapter, and Commandry York Rite; and Aladdin Temple Shrine.

Charles is survived by his son, Brian Shafer of Springfield; daughter, Pamela Laferty of Chillicothe; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, Roger Meadows, Roy Meadows, and Walter Meadows; sisters, Sharon, Brenda, Wanda, Laura, Shirley Nichols, Jean Dunlap, Linda Holbert; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughters, Joy Shafer and Debbie Bolton; and grandchild, Kandie Belcher.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Garrett Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St, McArthur, with Rev. Jerry Griffith Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur with military honors by the Marine Corps. Family and friends may visit from 10 am to 12 pm, Saturday at the funeral home with Masonic Services at 11:45 am.
