Clara Jane Devol passed on Monday, May 12, in her home surrounded by family. She was born Clara Jane Myers, on October 12, 1933, in Bremen, Ohio, daughter of Effie May Rine and Philip Sheridan Myers, and younger sister to Martha and Jim.
“Janie” was raised on a farm and learned the meaning of hard work at an early age. Being only eleven when her mother died, she became a natural cook in a home with no electricity until 1945.
She caught her future husband’s eye at a square dance in Bremen, and in 1953, one year later, they married, enjoying 67 years together. She took pleasure hosting family celebrations and church gatherings where everyone loved her pies and cakes and other culinary delights.
She served her community in many ways—as a member of P.T.A, hospital auxiliary, and band boosters. She co-founded the Smith Chapel Food and Clothing Ministry with her husband, Dannie, helping to distribute hundreds of tons of food over a twenty year period to thousands of families in Hocking County.
Jane always said that having a family was the privilege of her life. Survived by four daughters, Debbie Wallen (Joe); Vicki Devol (Mike Nihiser); Cathy Postelwait (Bill); Jane Ann Fuller (Doug Stackhouse) and numerous grand-children and great grand-children, Jane was preceded in death by her husband Dannie, her son, Mark, and her best friend, Vera Van Sickle.
Friends and family may call at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St, Logan, Ohio. Service to follow at 5:00 p.m. No graveside ceremony.
