Gene Cherry

Dale Eugene “Gene” Cherry, 78, of Logan, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Ohio State East Hospital in Columbus. Gene was born on March 14, 1947, in McArthur, the son of the late Frank and Mary (McGlothlin) Cherry. He was married to Debbie (Hammond) Cherry, who survives.

Gene was a 1965 graduate of Union Furnace High School. He was the owner and operator of Cherry’s Tire and Service for over 50 years, many of which were shared with his dad. Gene enjoyed showing and driving his old cars and loved spending time playing with his grandkids. He was a member of the Logan Church of the Nazarene, where he volunteered for many activities and taught both children and adults.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his children, Robert (Charlene) Cherry, Kathryn (Richard) Dean, David (Opal) Cherry, William (Jessie) Cherry, and bonus daughter, Victoria (Stephen) Kibble; grandchildren, Charla Gretz, Brock Cherry, Ryan Burghy, Scotty Burghy, Courtney Cherry, and Sarah Kibble; great-grandchildren, Shyanna and Conner Gretz, Arabella and Rhett Burghy, and Lacie and Carson Rock; sisters, Joy Pendleton and Judy (“Squeek”) Cunningham; and hundreds of kids and friends who were always welcome into his home.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Ashley Tucker; brothers-in-law, Dennis Hammond, Robert Thompson, and Beecher Pendleton; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Logan Church of the Nazarene, 650 Walhonding Ave., Logan, with Pastor Tom Gates officiating. Entombment will be in New Fairview Mausoleum, Rockbridge. Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St, Logan, and from 9 to 10 am Saturday at the church.
