Edna Mae Levering

Edna Mae Levering, 94, of Nelsonville, passed away at her home on Monday, June 29, 2026. She was born on May 14, 1932, in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Morris and Edith (Smith) Lowery. She was married to the late John James “Jim” Levering.

Edna previously worked at McBee’s in Athens. She spent many years as a cook for Nelsonville York Schools, mainly at Poston Elementary. Edna loved to play the piano, especially for the Oak Grove Wesleyan Church, which she did for many years.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Christy (Keith) Young of Nelsonville; son, Jeff Levering of Nelsonville; grandchildren, John Patton, Doug (Shell) Patton, Derek (Brittany) Young, Eric (Brittany) Levering, and Kristian (Mike) Renko; great grandchildren, Isabella, Blake, Kimber, Tucker, and Tanner; sister, Diane (Larry) Pidcock; and several nieces and nephews.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Edith; husband, Jim; son, Stephen Levering; and siblings, Phyllis, Morris Jr., Janice, Kenny, Evelyn “Sis”, Tommy, and Harold.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Oak Grove Wesleyan Church, 13771 Kimberley Rd, Nelsonville, with Pastor David Shoemaker officiating. Interment will be in Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville. Family and friends may visit from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday at the Souers Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville.
