Helen J. Stimmel, 87, of Logan, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at The Pickering House, Lancaster. Helen was born on October 20, 1938, in Hocking County, the daughter of the late Harland and Hannah Rebecca (Sinift) Geil. She shared her life with her beloved husband, Paul “Hal” Stimmel, to whom she was married for 66 years.
Helen was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Logan, where she decorated the sanctuary with flowers from her garden and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was known for her cooking and baking, most notably her homemade pies which were highly coveted desserts at church dinners and family gatherings. When she wasn’t in the garden, baking, or being the best Mamaw to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she would be sewing, most likely piecing together a quilt.
Helen is survived by her husband, Hal; daughters, Tamara (Gib) Tschudy of Westerville, Paula (Troy) Hoke of Nelsonville, and Heidi Fischer of Logan; grandchildren, Emily (Timothy Fultz) Hammon, Tessa (Tyler) Mellinger, Brandon (Theresa) Graham, Aaron (Krystal) Graham, Laila Anderson, Estelle Anderson, and Thomas Anderson; great grandchildren, Ember and Reid Mellinger and Cooper and Layla Graham; siblings, Florence Gross of Waverly, Donald Russell (Teresa) Geil of Lancaster, Wilma Kuhn, Betty Patton, Donna Coakley, Karolyn Brown, Peggy (Irwin) Gortney, Carl Geil, and sister-in-law Linda Geil all of Logan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Martha Geil and Emma Giffin; and brothers, Ronald Geil, Harold Geil, James Geil, and Charles Geil.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Logan, 399 Norwood Ave, Logan, with Pastor Lucas Moncado III and Joel Barkhurst officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Logan. Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Friday at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St, Logan and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
