James Frederick Hysell

James Frederick Hysell, 82, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Pickering House in Lancaster, Ohio. He was born May 30, 1943, in Garrettsville, Ohio, son of the late Gerald James Hysell and Dorothy White Henley. James was married for 63 years to Patricia Ann Mains Hysell, who survives.

He retired after 34 years from Southern Ohio Coal Company in Meigs County, Ohio. James was a devoted family man whose greatest pride and joy was time spent with those he loved. An avid hunter and lifelong outdoorsman, he grew up owning a gun shop and cherished his Sunday gun shoots, traditions that reflected both his passion and sense of community. A proud member of the NRA, he found peace in the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and camping. When not outside, he enjoyed restoring old cars, taking pride in bringing new life to something with history—much like the care and dedication he showed to his family and the life he built.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, James “Jimmy” (Missy) Hysell of Rutland; daughters, Brandi (Floyd “Les”) Warth of McArthur and Kandi (Nicholas Anderson) Hysell of Logan; grandchildren, Wyatt (Jill) Hysell, Shayla Hysell, Skylar (Dean) Jordan, Jerrika (William) Duvall, Marrisa (Ben) Kuhn and Quinton Warth; great grandchildren, Nova Jordan, Wesson Jordan, Adian Hysell and Paisley Grace Kuhn and several nieces and nephews, including Dave (Sue) Carroll.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Lynn Hysell; granddaughter, Kasey Ann Hysell; sisters, Juanita Kralik and Kay Elizabeth Stanley; baby brother, Gerald Roger Hysell and stepfather, Charles Henley.

A funeral service will be held 6 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2025, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Stephen Wheatly officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
