John Michael Reiter

John Michael Reiter, 65, of New Franklin, Ohio, formerly of McArthur, passed away comfortably with family and friends by his side on Friday, April 3, 2026, at his residence. He was born October 1, 1960, in Athens, Ohio, son of the late Harold and Meredith Lucille Peters Reiter.

John was a United States Army Veteran who also retired from the Army National Guard. Growing up, John was close to his only sister, Gladys. They spoke often after she married and moved to Barberton. He always said she was more like a mother than a sister. John also enjoyed his animals throughout the years and will be buried with Brutus, Tinkerbell and Roscoe. Tyson and Bella will miss him as well.

John is survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Allman; nieces and nephews, Doris Matuch, Chris Matuch, David (Robbi) Allman, Cindy (Daryl) Allman, Crystal Allman, Andy (Kelly) Allman and Chip (Shannon) Allman and special friends, Michael Ousley, Chris Willard, Steve Baker, Jessie (Sam) Sechkar, and Carly Sechkar .

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Reiter; brothers, Roger Reiter, Rodney Allman and Ernest Allman; sister, Gladys Matuch; sisters-in-law, Julie and Joy Allman, brother-in-law, Bruce Matuch, and longtime companion Linda Maxwell.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with a military graveside service being conducted by the United States Army. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
