Jose V. Alvarez

Jose V. Alvarez, 95, currently of Logan, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the Pickering House in Lancaster. Jose was born on February 25, 1930, in Cienfuegos, Cuba, the son of the late Belarmino and Barbara Alvarez.

Jose was the owner and operator of C&A motor parts in Merrellville, Indiana where he was known as Mopar Joe. He was a 50-year member of the Free & Accepted Masons. He also was a founding instructor for the U.S. Steel Hardcore program, where he helped train felons in heavy equipment operation and prepare them for jobs with U.S. Steel.

Jose is survived by his son, Joe (Teresa) Alvarez of Logan; daughter, Melissa (Mike) Krueger of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Maria Krueger, Stephen Alvarez, Bojie Alvarez, and Katie Alvarez; 1 great grandchild; caretaker, Osaida Quintana; and cousin, Patricia DeVinney.

Jose was preceded in death by his parents; spouses, Maria (Alvarez) Alvarez and Betty (Stephens) Alvarez; sons, Adam Alvarez and David Alvarez; and daughter, Barbara Alvarez.

No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are in the care of Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St, Logan.
