Joyce Deane Burns

Joyce Deane Burns, 80, of The Plains, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus. She was born on July 7, 1944, in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Edward and Florence (Carpenter) Forbes. She was the widow of the late John Burns.

Joyce cherished the time she spent with her family, and she loved cooking. Joyce was a teacher with the Logan-Hocking and Alexander school districts. She also served on the board for the Department of Developmental Disabilities in Hocking and Athens counties.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jayne (Michael Fouty) Hobbs of the Plains; grandchildren, Haley Hobbs and John Hobbs; brother-in-law, Gene Crane of Logan; and special friend, Norma Patton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jonna Burns; sisters, Carolyn Crane and Sandra Coen; and John’s parents, Howard and Pearl Burns.

In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
