Lawrence A. Gingerich of Hocking County passed away on Monday August 22, 2022, with his partner in life Ann L. Gingerich, neighbors and friends by his side. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Clarence Norman Gingerich and Marguerite Hildegard Lorenzen Gingerich, and his dear brother Norman Lee Gingerich. Living on with his love and memory in their hearts are his wife of 52 years Ann L. Gingerich, and their four daughters Margaret D. Gingerich Gustafan, Heather L. (David Wade) Gingerich, Christina D. Gingerich, and Erica J. (Russell Flagg) Gingerich, and their grandchildren Katie Gustafan, Haley and Cameron Wade, and Brandon and Emillee Flagg and his cousins.
Lawrence was a devoted husband, patient father, loyal friend, compulsive tinkerer, and British Car enthusiast. He was quirky, clever, and above all humble. He was considerate of others and saw the beauty in nature. He was the kind of person who would mow around a daisy, share a plate of cookies, or lend a friendly ear.
Lawrence was 6’4” so you noticed him when he walked into a room, but he never towered. His gentle demeanor and fair respectful treatment of others made his physical stature invisible. This served him well throughout his career in the field of Occupational Safety and Health when he worked with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Mead Paper, American Electric Power, Ohio University, Frostburg University and his own company Proactive Environmental Inc. He has left behind a legacy of hundreds of lives touched through his devotion to prevention of occupational injuries and disease. Applying fairness, mediation skills, patience and persistence throughout his career also helped him guide four cantankerous daughters towards happiness.
Lawrence was a lifelong cyclist and member of St. Johns Mennonite Chapel and later Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Board of Industrial Hygienists, Board of Certified Safety Professionals, President of Public Employee Retirees Inc, in Jackson, OH, and he enjoyed volunteering to judge at science fairs.
Lawrence A. Gingerich would want to share that:
