Mary Jane Bowlby

Mary Jane Bowlby, 91, of Logan, passed away peacefully to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at The Carlin House in Logan. She was born December 20, 1934, in The Plains, Ohio, daughter of the late Arthur “Jay” and Eleanor Atkinson Powell. Mary Jane was the devoted wife of 71 years of the late Carol Lee Bowlby.

She was the owner of Mary Jane’s Beauty Shop in Logan and a member of Hocking Hills Church. Mary Jane was a proud graduate of The Plains High School, where she played the bass drum in the high school band. Throughout her life, she found joy in many hobbies, including cake decorating, bowling, square dancing, and tending to her beautiful flower beds. The heart of her family, she was the matriarch who lovingly prepared Sunday dinners and made certain that everyone was cared for and welcomed around her table. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she cherished her role as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Her love, guidance, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear will be remembered for generations to come.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Bowlby of Logan; son, Jerry (Carla) Bowlby of Logan; grandchildren, Jerry (Christina) Bowlby, Jennifer Bowlby, Carrie (Lea Carrigan) Bowlby, Jessica Bowlby and Charles (Autumn) Bowlby; great grandchildren, Caitlyn (Hunter) Johnson, Kyla (Allen) Wagner and Saylor Jean Bowlby; great great grandchild, Jacob Chase Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her son, Mickey Lee Bowlby; brothers, Robert, Michael, Arthur and Paul Powell and sisters, Jeanne Dittmar and Lois Evans.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2026, at Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Pastor Roland Mitchell and Pastor Charlene Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday, one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
