Philip Raymond Pettet, 82, of Albany, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital in Athens. He was born November 14, 1939, in Perry County, Ohio, son of the late Samuel and Ocea McGill Pettet. Philip was married for 62 years to Cora Mae Jividen Pettet, who survives.
When Philip was 19, he married the love of his life, Cora Mae, with whom he spent 62 wonderful years. The two of them created a life together and had two children, Richard and Roger. In the years following their retirement, the two of them enjoyed traveling often. They eventually ventured to all of the states in the continental US in their RV.
Above all, Philip was a family man. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. In the summer he could be found roasting hotdogs with his grandchildren, teaching them to catch crawdads from the creek, or taking them fishing. In the winter, he could be found watching the Buckeyes with his boys, deer hunting with his brothers and their families, or chasing rabbits with his dogs and nephew, Terry.
Philip was an avid servant of the Lord. He rarely missed a worship service and enjoyed being a servant of the church. Along with the maintenance of the church, which included anything from mowing the grass to renovations, he also served as the PA operator, and he enjoyed leading the youth as the youth pastor. His most fervent calling, however, was serving those in nursing homes and those unable to leave their homes by faithfully visiting and praying with them weekly.
Philip was a hard, and dedicated, artistant. He worked for over 40 years - the majority of which he was a carpenter. He enjoyed his work and shared this passion with several of his brothers, nephews, and his son, Roger until he retired.
Philip had a love for life and will be profoundly missed.
He is survived by his son, Roger Pettet of Logan; grandchildren, James (Holly) Pettet, Tim Pettet, Christopher (Kacy) Pettet and Maygen Pettet; great grandchildren, Jaclyn, Logan, Emma, Ellie, Scarlett Rae, Ezekiel and Lukas; brothers, Albert (Gloria) Pettet and Ernest (Shirley) Pettet; sisters, Louella Mears, Sylvia (John) Jividen and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard William Pettet; brother, Walter Pettet and sister, Marie Mears.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2022, in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Bob Jividen and Rev. John Jividen officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of Philip Raymond Pettet to Christ Community Wesleyan Church 6275 Kenny Chapel Memorial Lane, Albany, Ohio 45710.
