Ramón Humberto Valencia

June 14, 1944 — March 20, 2026

Logan

Ramón Humberto (Glower) Valencia, 81, of Logan, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026. Ramón was born on June 14, 1944, in Santa Ana, El Salvador, the son of the late Rafael Glower and Soledad Valencia Melara.

Ramón was widely known as dynamic, affectionate, talented, caring, loving, and intensely loyal. A long-time resident of Columbus, Ohio, he grew up in El Salvador and brought with him a colorful culture reflected in the beautiful music he created on his guitar. As a young man, he was El Salvador’s National Foosball Champion, played semi-professional futbol (soccer) and later turned to tennis and ping pong. He exuded warmth to everyone he encountered. In 1974, he lived in Montreal, Canada, where he married his wife, Sandra, after the two were attendants at the wedding of mutual friends. Throughout their long marriage, he took pride in being a loving and protective husband who always supported his wife in her endeavors and making sure her accomplishments were known to everyone he knew. Ramón was a dedicated father to Gabriel and Marcos, his two sons, and was delighted when he finally got a girl when Misty married into the family. To extended family and friends, he was always someone to depend on.

In 2013, he accomplished a long-held dream of building a log cabin in Ohio’s Hocking Hills, where he lived at the time of his passing. The cabin was his stage for parties and celebrations – gatherings of family, friends, friends of family, and the family of friends with lively music, good food, and great companionship. At the cabin, most people came to know him as “Papi,” a name he cherished.

Much of Ramón’s life revolved around his 34-1/2 year career with DLA. He considered his citizenship an honor and was devoted to doing his best to ensure the military services had what they needed on time. Ramón often said people saw the military as just the Army or the Navy without considering the real men and women who were taking risks and making sacrifices to protect our nation. He said he talked to young soldiers who were far from home and in need of supplies that could mean the difference between life and death. He demonstrated intense respect and concern for those who served in the armed forces.

What Ramón leaves behind is a legacy of caring about other people. He always made himself available when people were hurting. He guided people through difficult life situations and tragedies. He comforted, encouraged, and helped people, teaching them to believe in their own capabilities and gifts. That was his personal gift as he touched the lives of people around the world. To his wife, he often credited the Salesian priests, his childhood teachers, with instilling such powerful empathy.

Ramón Valencia lived life as a dedicated husband and father as well as a reliable, caring friend. His life was filled with enough amazing stories to fill a book. His great legacy will be the power of his character and personality manifested in the lives of people he touched around the world.

Ramón is survived by his wife, Sandra (Ward) Valencia; sons, Gabriel (Misty) Valencia and Marcos Valencia; and several nieces and nephews including, René Glower, Raphael St. Johns, Guillermo Glower, Laura Bodin, and Dora Nelly Valencia.

Ramón was preceded in death by his mother; father; and siblings, Rafael Glower Valdivieso, René Glower Valdivieso, Stanley Glower Valdivieso, Lilian Glower de Vásquez, and Ricardo Valencia Melara.
