Brandon Kyle Hickey, 34, of Horizon City, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1991, in Lancaster, Ohio, Brandon was a joyful spirit who loved spending time with friends and family. Known for his friendly nature, he never met a stranger. Brandon was an empathetic person who absorbed everything around him and helped everyone he encountered.
Brandon graduated from Nelsonville York High School and chose to serve his country by joining the United States Army. After graduating, he became a Chinook mechanic and later advanced his career by attending the Drill Instructor Academy. His dedication and leadership earned him a place in the Drill Instructor Hall of Fame, where he served as Chief of Training. Brandon completed one tour of duty in Afghanistan, showcasing his commitment to serving and protecting.
He continued his Army service by moving to Texas, where he furthered his career and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class in his division.
Brandon is survived by his father, Mark, and stepmother, Jesi Vancuren; his mother, Jacquie, and stepfather, Adam Wine; his brother, Jessie, and sister-in-law, Josie Johnson; his sister, Meagan, and sister-in-law, Megan Johnson-Meyers; and his grandparents, Danny and Rhonda Wine.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Marjorie Tubbs and Phyllis VanCuren and aunt, Sheila Tubbs.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Hocking Hills Retreat Center, 30682 Chieftain Drive, Logan, Ohio, 43138, with Pastor Steve Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge, with military graveside services being conducted by the United States Army. Visitation will be held at the Hocking Hills Retreat Center on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Arrangements are by Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, Ohio 43138.
