Thelma Viola McClain, 86, of Athens, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. She was born on May 18, 1938, in Carbondale, Ohio, to the late Virgil Newlun and Mary (Kasler) Newlun Stover. Thelma was the widow of the late Glenn F. McClain.
Thelma was a huge Cincinnati Reds fan. Thelma also never met a baby that she didn’t love and want to hold.
Thelma is survived by her children, Brenda (Jesse Walker Sr) McClain Potts of Nelsonville, Glenn M. (Ann Addington) McClain of Carbon Hill, Terry L. (Angie) McClain of Nelsonville, Ryan E. (Michelle) McClain of Marysville, Lisa McClain Oxley of The Plains, and Megan (Chris) Eaton of Athens; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and special friend, Phyllis Folden.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandparents, Ben and Bertha Newlun; stepfather, Dale Stover; sons-in-law, Craig Oxley, Steven Blackford, and Kenneth L. Potts; daughter-in-law, Cathy McClain; and great grandson, Silas Hurt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St, Nelsonville with Pastor Don Harris officiating. Interment will be in Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville. Family and friends may visit from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
