William "Sleepy" Ray Welch

William “Sleepy” Ray Welch, 74, of The Plains, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at his home.  Sleepy was born December 17, 1947, in Columbus, the son of the late Walter and Betty Jean (Powell) Welch.

Sleepy served for many years with the Combined Color Guard on many Veteran funeral ceremonies.

Sleepy is survived by his sisters, Vicki (John) Keirns of The Plains and Karen (David) McCune of Millfield; brother, Jack (Carol) Welch of Chesterhill; niece, Tina Chesser of The Plains; nephew, Brad (Missy) Keirns; 2 great nephews; and 3 great nieces.

In addition to his parents, Sleepy was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter Welch, Bob Welch, and Brian Welch.

No services will be held.  Arrangements are by Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville.
